BalletMet has had along history of working with local 12 from its beginnings in the 1970’s, utilizing union members when it went into the local theaters, and touring the USA, but it was not until 1992 that the union organized BalletMet scene shop, then located in the BuggyWorks building.
Since then the production staff have been able to work under a CBA.
Through this shop many members have worked and been able to move onto other jobs, Greg Bryan became Head Carpenter for the Southern Theatre, Jennifer Bullen was Assistant Production Manager at the Ballet, Carla Chaffin designs scenery for numerous companies around central Ohio, Travis Herald travels the U.S and Europe rigging for many major touring acts. Many others have worked in the BalletMet scene Shop and toured with the company as part of the production team.
Opera Columbus has its entire Production staff represented by Local 12. Through all the unsure financial times the company has had, the local has been able to work with management to ensure the positions of the bargaining unit, without loss of positions or benefits.
This relationship continues to be mutually beneficial.
